Execution Protocol signed for the establishment of a Portugal-Mexico maritime corridor

At the Port of Sines, Portugal, the signing of the Execution Protocol took place between the CIIT- Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and the Administração dos Portos de Sines e do Algarve, S.A., with the purpose of developing a maritime corridor for the bidirectional transport of containerized cargo, solid or dry bulk, liquefied natural gas, and other energy products.
The Protocol, signed by the general director of the National Port System Administration of Coatzacoalcos, Retired Vice Admiral Martín Zepeda Anguiano, and by the President of the Portuguese entity, Pedro do Ó Ramos, links the ports of Sines and Coatzacoalcos as sister ports and extends its scope to the Port of Salina Cruz. With this, ties of proximity, dialogue, and cooperation are strengthened at all levels, while the railway link through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec is promoted and the development of a bioceanic route with the European Union is contributed to.
This instrument, which derives from the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023 between both entities, seeks to generate strategic alliances in areas such as foreign trade, engineering, environmental protection, sustainability, innovation, digital transformation, and technical cooperation, with the objective of streamlining commercial exchange and promoting industrial and logistical development between both ports, as well as fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices that contribute to a secure and sustainable port management model.
This alliance is part of the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Navy–Mexican Navy, in accordance with the Framework Collaboration Agreement signed between both agencies on October 28, 2025, for the international promotion of the strategic projects of the Government of Mexico, the modernization of national port and airport infrastructure, as well as the strengthening of our country's connectivity with the world.
