Port of Coatzacoalcos, at the forefront on maritime signaling

November 1, 2011. Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz

Puerto de Coatzacoalcos, a la vanguardia en señalamiento marítimoAs part of the coordination and collaboration between the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine and the Mexican Institute of Transport, the Port Authority of Coatzacoalcos installed a sophisticated measuring equipment height, sea surface temperature and wave direction.

To gather information with which to support sea navigation, this entity installed 4 measuring equipments:

Mareograph.- Gives information to measure changes in sea level.

Directional buoy .- helps to know tide behavior in normal and storm wheather.

Weather station .- To measuring humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction; useful for port activities.

High Frequency Sensors .- Reports sea levels when north winds, cyclones and tsunamis occur.

The objective of this project maritime signaling is to cover the most important needs in terms of oceanographic and meteorological information, generated by the Port of Coatzacoalcos and monitored by the Mexican Institute of Transport from its base in Sanfandila, Querétaro.

In the Mexican Republic, measurement equipment had been installed in 39 ports, together form the National Oceanographic and Meteorological Station (RENEOM).

With this type of strategic agreements the Port of Coatzacoalcos, Mexico's leader in bulk cargo, enhances the safety of port activities.
